INFECTION CONTROL

Department’s mission:

The mission of the Infection Control (IPC) department at Albert Haykel Hospital is to support the hospital’s adoption of providing the population with quality care reachable to all, to keep the highest level of safety for the patients, staff and visitors by reducing the risk of acquiring and transmitting infections.

 

Department’s functions:

  1. Evaluate policies and procedures for screening and prevention of infection risks within the hospital as well as ensuring the implementation of the policies and procedures
  2. Evaluate the effectiveness of surveillance methods of reporting and prevention of healthcare-associated infections including Device-associated infections
  3. Identify epidemiological variations and identify clusters of cases and epidemics and their investigations
  4. Identify exposures to infections among staff during the work and establish the recommendations of prevention and treatment of these infections
  5. Monitor the application of international standards in architectural projects and when acquiring new products that could have an impact on transmission of infections
  6. Analyze bacteriological data and establish statistics necessary for daily practice and for local, regional and international comparisons
  7. Provide continuous updating and training of staff and patients on infection control measures and procedures through an annual training plan.
     

The IC department works in close collaboration and under supervision of the Infection Control Committee (CLIN – Comité de Lutte contre les infections Nosocomiales).
